She arrived on a Wednesday (after leaving the US on Tuesday) and the kids and I headed to the airport to pick her up. Her flight was delayed a bit and the kids were not so patiently waiting for her!! She arrived while the kids were still on Spring Break so they got to spend lots of uninterrupted time with her!
We've had such beautiful weather...it hadn't snowed since like the first week of February and the temps were slowly rising....I (foolishly) thought Spring had arrived, but I should have known better! The climate here is super similar to Michigan, so I really should not have been surprised when it started snowing the day she arrived...temps got low, and then the rain came...but we still made the best of it.
The first day here she arrived mid morning and after coming back to our house, the little girls took naps and then we just walked around our town and showed her the 'hood!
On Thursday took her to a fun amusement park about 30 minutes from here that the kids LOVE! Ravensburger Spieleland. She was riding rides and running around all day. We had so much fun!
The next day we went on quite an adventure! The kids and I have been dying to check out an Aquarium on the other side of the lake since we moved here, so we took the train to Friedrichshafen and then jumped on a boat that takes you across the lake to a city called Konstanz. The whole trip took us over 2.5 hours but it was so worth it! The aquarium was small, but it was kind of perfect...and the town itself was adorable!! I cannot wait to go back and explore it.
I have to admit, I think the boat ride was the highlight of the day for the kids! Since Chris works in Friedrichshafen, he picked us up on his way home and we kicked off our weekend just all spending time together, having dinner with some wonderful friends and enjoying Wasserburg.
After a fun weekend with Chris home the kids headed back to school on Monday and into our normal routine. I took one look at the weather though and realized it would be the last nice day of mom's trip, so I cancelled our afternoon German lessons and we drove to Bregenz, Austria and took the Pfander to the top to play at the park, check out the view...and of course, eat some ice cream!!
It rained the entire rest of her visit, which was a HUGE bummer, but we made the most of it and still had a great time! We went swimming and even got to celebrate Mary's birthday a few days early...it was SUCH a treat for her to have a homemade birthday cake from Grandma!!!
The grown-ups even got out for a night and had a traditional German dinner. It was SO yummy!!!
I cannot tell you how sad we all were to see her go home!! Thank you, Mom for making the long trip to see our new home. We love you!
