Hello! And welcome to our *new* family blog!! We wanted a place to share our experiences with family and friends as we live abroad.
We have now lived in Wasserburg, Germany for almost 4 months. Wasserburg is a small town in Bavaria that sits along the Lake of Constance, or the Bodensee as it is known in German...so, that's how we got our blog name (compliments of my ever clever husband!) Baileys am Bodensee!!
The kids have done amazing with the entire transition...it hasn't been easy and there have been some bumps in the road, but they have continued to amaze us with their courage and enthusiasm. Allie and Michael are attending the local German public school and Mary is right next door to them at the Kindergarten, which are both about a 3 minute walk from our house. It's perfect. Children here attend Kindergarten from ages 3-6, then what's known as Grundschule for grades 1-4.
One thing that we've been loving is the school schedule...everyone is home by noon every day. Two days a week Michael is home at 11:00am and one day a week Allie finishes at 11:00am. Allie does go back to school from 1:40pm-3:55pm on Tuesdays, but that's it! Everyone is home for lunch every day. It has been such a blessing and I think a tremendous help in our adjustment! Since the kids are attending our local German school it is FULL immersion, they get some assistance obviously, but they are hearing German all morning, so the mid-day break is a welcome one for them.
We've slowly been exploring our new home and look forward to sharing all of it with you!
Love,
Chris, Alexis, Allie, Michael, Mary & Emily
